Scenery
Narrow, moderate-sized lake with a lot of trees. It is one of several lakes creating by the damming of the Lawrence Brook. There are some nice houses south of Washington Place along the western shore. But the best-looking houses are on the eastern shore, north of Washington Place. Near the east branch, there is an outcropping of pine trees, that makes a great lunch spot. If water levels are high enough, you can get as far south the Davidson Mill Pond Dam.
The dam at the northern end should be avoided. If 3 or more inches of water is overflowing the dam, it creates a strong enough current to pull a kayak over the edge. (This is a 50 foot drop.)
From the south, after passing under Washington Place (depending on the water level, you may have to duck), watch for the pilings. There are usually one or two that can be passed through without getting caught by an underwater obstruction. Also, be very careful about fishing lines when passing under Washington Place and Church Lane bridges.
Hugging the shoreline, yields a 7 1/2 mi trip.
Fees
None.
Directions
Take route 130 north to North Brunswick. After you pass Adams Station, Washington Place is the next traffic light. Make a right at the light. Follow Washington Place, over the lake, where there is parking on the east side, south of the road.

Parking
An unpaved, patch of dirt, on the south side of Washington Place constitutes parking for the lake. The potholes at the entrance have been filled in. Arrive as late as 9:00 AM on a summer weekend, and you could be out of luck: Limited parking which fills fast.
Distance to the Launch Area
The parking area is close to the water's edge.
Restrooms
None.
Status of Launch Area
Sandy, presenting no problems.
Wind Conditions
Very long, slightly twisty, and narrow. I have never seen significant winds here. As an indicator, if the East Brunswick wind forecast is 14 mph, with gusts to 29 mph, Farrington Lake will be around 10 mph, with gusts in the mid to upper teens.
Power Boats
Electric boats only; no gas-powered craft.
Foliage
Do not know. I have not been here in the fall.
Rolling Practice?
Though the water is not as clear as Round Valley, Farrington Lake is very calm. Don't practice too close to shore, because of the snapping turtles. A good spot seems to be the large open area south west of the pine tree outcropping, north of the summer camp boat docks. (This is south of Washington Place.)
